Nds may not be as random as it looks Will Lila nravel the mysteries Will the readerThe Study of Secrets is an engrossing and challenging race to the surprising denouement for armchair detectives like me It s great fun to not only solve the murder but also spot the witty nods to great mysteries of the past I will definitely be adding other novels in this series to my to be read pile If you re a classic mystery reader or a fan of Carolyn G Hart s Death on Demand mysteries this is a book you shouldn t miss 5 starsThanks to Henery Press Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours and Edelweiss for a copy in exchange for my honest review I m not sure why I m so late to the Lila Maclean mystery party but this was a great book to jump in on There was a bit of a learning curve at the very beginning as to why Lila was at Bibi s house and how it came about etc But since the book is set away from her Turning The Professor Into A Crossdressing, Sissified and Feminized Pet - A Tale of Forced Feminization! university on her sabbatical there was less trying to find my footing than there might have otherwise beenThe main cast of characters is eclectic in true cozy mystery fashion and I really enjoyed getting to know Bibi her friends and of course Lila as the story progressed However I couldn t get too comfortable around them given the nature of the mystery Lila is trying to solve technically 3 mysteries that might all be connected a murder a theft and a long ago disappearance and the fact that the suspect pool is fairly small This layered plot keeps you fully engaged all the way through and has your mind whirring with possibilities trying to fit all the puzzle pieces togetherBottom Line This is a fun mystery with a great heroine and a well crafted plot The pace allows the story to move along smoothly andickly with a mix of suspects and theories to keep you guessing If you haven t started the Lila Maclean series yet The Study of Secrets is a great launching point ntil you can go back and read the previous books Cozy fans #mystery buffs and book lovers alike will love the latest from Cynthia KuhnI #buffs and book lovers alike will love the latest

Cynthia KuhnI a complimentary copy of this book which I bought for my own collectionfirst seen at Reading Is My SuperPower I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my reviewThe Study of Secrets by Cynthia Kuhn is like stepping into the amazing life of a literary professor who specializes in mystery novels by one author named Isabella Dare Will Lila be able to figure out what happened to Bibi s friend Gillian Professor Lila Maclean Professor Lila Maclean is our sleuth and she is living in Larkston in this installment to finish two books One book for her to publish and get tenure at her college and the other a mystery novel Let s just say that this is a doozy of one One mystery turns into trying to solve some past crimes and why they happened Lila is the one to do it and she does a fantastic job of doing it I love Lila and that she seems like a great person I would be her friend and be interested in reading these Isabella Dare novelsWhat I like about Lila besides what I mentioned above is that she seems like someone that just wants what is best and doesn t mean to be solving these crimes She just happens pon them and has to try to answer them for the greater good The Mystery The mystery is one that had me trying to hunt down the clues with her Gillian is a retired literary agent who happened to lose a husband the same night that Bibi did a while ago Not only that but Lila finds a manuscript and Gillian goes after it Well while she was looking at the document Gillian dies and the document is missing Bibi Enlists Lila To Help enlists Lila to help solve who could have killed Gillian That isn t an easy thing to do when the manuscript has a decades old mystery that happens to have been a real life crime Is this what makes Gillian a targetLet s just say that I had no clue who did it but when that was happening it dawned on me that the killer was perfect I never suspected the culprit Five Stars The Study of Secrets by Cynthia Kuhn is a great novel and I am glad to have gotten the time to read this latest one Ms Kuhn does a fantastic job and I loved every minute of reading it I do have to say that I wouldn t mind living in a mansion for a semester on vacation to write a manuscript or two Callahan College will just have to hope that the ghosts in the Callahan. Harming library Unfortunately it also features a body in the studyResidents of Larkston have long believed that the Callahan family is cursed the murder on the estate sets the town buzzing Wild rumors are fueled by a gossipy blogger who delights in speculation and further crimes. Lila Maclean is an English Literature professor at Stonedale College She s #Taken A Sabbatical At #a sabbatical at home of Bibi Callahan whom Lila has recently discovered is her favorite author Isabella Dare While no one knows the secret but her Bibi was so taken with Lila that she asked her to stay and help organize her files during her sabbaticalBut when Lila accidentally comes across an old manuscript of Bibi s that has never been published she doesn t expect it to cause problems she merely wants *Bibi To Publish It *to publish it while Bibi insists it s a work of fiction there s some truth to it It s the tale of the night her only sister Ilse disappeared and her own thoughts as to who could be involved Unwittingly Lila lets it slip that the manuscript exists when the Larks visit three women who have been friends with Bibi since childhood and when one of them is later found dead and the manuscript is missing it now becomes a murder investigationWhile the police are looking into the murder they don t believe the manuscript has anything to do with it Bibi asks for Lila s help in finding out where the manuscript is and who could do something like this but when Lila starts finding answers they aren t the ones Bibi and her friends want to know And without anyone to help her searching for clues she must depend on herself and maybe the reluctant detective assigned to the case to ferret out a killer who might just get away with murderThis is the fifth book in the Lila Maclean Academic Mysteries and as such is just as good as the others which is saying something Lila s life has always been a bit stressful not just being a professor who s trying to achieve tenure but her recent breakup with another homicide detective still has her reeling While she s found a moment of peace with Bibi the murder changes all thatStill Lila seems to thrive on mystery in her life She s intelligent thorough can manage her professional life and her personal one even while one or the other isn t going the way she d like it to go Lila is a woman I think I d like to have as a friend Her intensity dedication to her work and friends and generous nature are all part of this bookBut the story goes deeper than what Bibi wrote in the manuscript For of course she only has her version of what might have happened to work with When the ending comes the murderer is revealed than the truth comes out it s both sad and horrifying in a way yet when there s closure in ways than one it allows people to move on with their lives and decide what they truly wan This series gets better with every book The author writes in such a clear and smart way that the books are a joy to read Nothing is wasted and every word counts Lila and her story grows and evolves with every book and I find myself rooting for her like I would a friend to succeed in her endeavors This book takes the series on location and it is enjoyable to see Lila out of her normal environment and interacting with some new friends and the old as wellhttpscozyexperiencecomthe study Kuhn does an excellent job of creating a well woven mystery I love the atmosphere of both the Victorian house and the small town of Larkston The tangled web of suspects in a place where everyone grew A Way Youll Never Be up together and all have their own secrets left me guessingntil the very end I also love Lila s character and the smart observations she brings as a professor to the story Plus the literary references throughout add an extra layer of fun to the novelAn enjoyable mystery with a healthy heaping of academic spice A book club s evening is shattered when one member is found strangled on the study floor The motive evolves into the Study of Secrets of the remaining three members of the club Good thing that the college professor intrepid researcher and part time sleuth Lila is on the sceneLila is researching a lesser known mystery author for a scholarly study of her work When the long out of print writer Bibi invites Lila to stay on her estate in exchange for organizing her papers Lila to stay on her estate in exchange for organizing her papers can Lila say no While cleaning Lila finds an npublished manuscript in a locked desk drawer and she is ecstatic She locks the book back in the drawer with the intention of returning the key to its author However it is time for the author s book club meeting to beginThere are many mysteries and even secrets in the women s lives Even the accidental death of two of their husba. There could be nowhere fitting for English professor Lila Maclean to spend her sabbatical than in a proper Victorian mansion The whimsical Callahan House seems to have materialized from the pages of the mystery novels she is researching with its enchanting towers cozy nooks and ,

Only intensify the whispers and suspicions A newly discovered manuscript however appears to expose startling facts beneath the fictions When Lila steps in to sort the truth from the lies it may cost her everything as someone wants to make dead certain that their secrets stay hidd.
